Professional Practices and Educator Conduct Coordinator

Catherine Slagle is NASDTEC's Professional Practices and Educator Conduct Coordinator.

In this role, Ms. Slagle works closely with the NASDTEC Professional Practices Committee (PPC) to develop and expand professional practices opportunities for NASDTEC members. These opportunities include webinars, discussion groups and meetings, and of course the development of the annual Professional Practices Institute.

In July 2024, Catherine Slagle transitioned into her new role as the NASDTEC Professional Practices & Educator conduct Coordinator. In this position, she will be assisting the Development Coordinator in the content of the NASDTEC Professional Practices Institute. She will also coordinate Professional Practices Committee (PPC) webinars and hold regional meetings with professional practices staff. She will also be the point of contact on items related to educator conduct and will coordinate and maintain the PPC user groups. Catherine has been involved with NASDTEC and the PPC since 2013, when she was appointed as the Western States representative on the planning committee.  She later served as the chair of the committee, and in January 2022, took on the role of Development Coordinator for NASDTEC. Since March 2010, Catherine has also served as the Director of the Office of Professional Practices (OPP) with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). She also manages the agency's fingerprint background check unit and serves as the agency's Ethics Advisor.

Prior to working with NASDTEC and OPSI, Catherine served as the Associate Dean for Education with Grays Harbor College from 2002-2010. She started her professional career with the Department of Corrections in Washington State in 1990, serving in several positions, including Correctional Counselor, Community Corrections Officer, Trainer, Training Manager, Court Liaison, and Risk Management Specialist. 

Catherine earned her BA in Sociology, Psychology, and Communications from Eastern Washington University, her MA in Organizational Leadership, and a Certificate in Human Resources from Chapman University in Orange, California.
