| Novice Educator Essential Competencies |
NASDTEC is leading a two-year national effort to identify and recommend Novice Educator Essential Competencies (NEEC); the key knowledge and skills new teachers will need to earn their first license and succeed in classrooms over the next decade. Launching in June 2026, this initiative will convene a task force of experts to develop competency recommendations and practical guidance for how states can use them to strengthen initial licensure and educator preparation program approval processes. The NEEC work builds on NASDTEC’s recent review of the 2011 InTASC standards, affirming that those standards will remain unchanged while addressing a clear member-identified need for focused guidance specific to novice teachers entering the profession between 2028 and 2038. Designed to complement InTASC through an explicit crosswalk, NEEC will reflect emerging teaching and learning innovations and evolving workforce demands, while providing multiple opportunities for NASDTEC members to contribute through nominations, regional meetings, webinars, and other engagement opportunities.
