Join your colleagues for the 23rd Annual NASDTEC Professional Practices Institute at the beautiful Sheraton Gunter Hotel in downtown San Antonio, Texas, from October 16-18, 2019, for three days of discussion, topical sessions planned by your peers, and a renewal for the coming year.

This year’s PPI features both general and concurrent sessions with interactive sessions examining developing best practices in dealing with educators, witnesses, emerging technology, and the media while working within ethical and regulatory boundaries. Speakers include:

  • Javier Rodriguez, from the Texas Attorney General Office, discussing internet crimes against children
  • A new 3-part concurrent session, on the investigation approach of allegations of misconduct from the perspectives of the school, district, and state levels
  • Justin Edwards, from the Wichita (KS) Attorney General’s office, discussing a prosecutor’s approach to handling cases with young or vulnerable witnesses
  •  James Agee, of the West Virginia Department of Education, on identifying veracity and possible deception
  • Troy Hutchings, NASDTEC’s new senior policy advisor & nationally known expert, on how to best use the Model Code of Ethics for Educators
  • And…MUCH more along with the announcement of the annual Doug Bates Award

The 2019 PPI promises to be an outstanding gathering for those working in jurisdiction agencies, district leaders, and educator preparation professionals. The PPI is a unique meeting which unites those who work with the prevention and resolution of teacher misconduct and ethical dilemmas every day.  This opportunity to discuss these issues with your fellow professionals, both experiences and approaches, is not available to you at any other conference.  In addition, the PPI will feature a pre-conference on the morning of October 16 with guided discussions of issues among individual role-alike work groups.  You may choose your group for exploring the issues you want to discuss with your peers.

The Sheraton Gunter provides an economical yet beautiful fall venue for the 2019 PPI, centrally located in one of the South’s most scenic cities with many dining and entertainment options along the Riverwalk.  NASDTEC has once again secured an outstanding room rate of $159/night (subject to slight increase in August when new government hotel per diem rates are set) which will sell out, so make your reservations and complete your conference registration soon, and be sure to take a look here to see all our host hotel has to offer.

Registration, hotel information, and a draft agenda are available here.
