NASDTEC FORWARD FUND…Pay it Forward by Giving Back

For over 90 years the NASDTEC’s mission has been to provide leadership and support to those responsible for the preparation, certification/licensure, ethical and professional practice, employment, and continuing professional development of educators.  Notable success in accomplishing this mission has been due to a laser focus on continuous improvement across the continuum that produces and places ethical and effective professional educators in every school.

In response to this focus on continuous improvement, this past year the NASDTEC Executive Board established the NASDTEC Forward Fund.  The Forward Fund will serve as NASDTEC’s first philanthropic outreach to give back to the education community.

We have big plans for the Forward FundThe NASDTEC Executive Board’s initial priority for the Forward Fund is to support classroom teachers, especially those in under-represented groups and those who serve in high-need schools. As a start, we have two initiatives that will provide direct support to classroom teachers, including teacher leaders.

1. Conference Colleagues

Teachers will be invited to attend the NASDTEC annual conference where they will not only participate but be recognized as they enjoy the national focus of the meeting.  Initially, the Forward Fund will support these teachers’ travel, cost of a substitute teacher, and recognition. As the fund expands, mini-grants will be awarded to educators to focus on practice and problems of practice in targeted areas across the professional continuum, with their work shared at NASDTEC conferences.

Having practicing educators join NASDTEC conferences will be a win-win. The teachers will benefit by having the opportunity to share their practical experiences with a national audience and as a result will see themselves and their work through a wider professional lens. NASDTEC members will benefit from the on-the-ground application the teacher brings to the meeting and the opportunity to engage with outstanding educators.

2. Regional Workshops on Use of MCEE

The Forward Fund will support a limited number of Educator Preparation Providers (EPPs) in each of the four NASDTEC regions in hosting workshops for their faculty and partner school districts.   The workshops will provide hands-on guidance on how to use the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE).  The EPP will also receive a day of training on how to help additional districts in its service region to explore the use of the MCEE.

Our initial goal is to raise $5,000 by January 31, 2019.
